ADVISORY FEB. 10: State House Briefing: MGB Primary Care Doctors Sound Alarm on Access Crisis, Urge Lawmakers to Demand Union Recognition and Transparency in Primary Care.
On Tuesday, February 10, primary care physicians from Mass General Brigham, represented by Doctors Council SEIU, will brief state legislators on the escalating primary care crisis in Massachusetts and its impact on patient access. Doctors will describe how chronic understaffing, excessive workloads, and loss of clinical autonomy are driving physicians out of primary care and limiting patient access. They will also raise concerns about the lack of transparency around MGB’s reported $400 million investment in primary care and the rapid rollout of its AI-driven Care Connect model without meaningful frontline physician input.
Doctors will explain why 250 MGB primary care physicians voted overwhelmingly, 88 percent, to unionize as a strategy to improve retention and protect patient-centered care. Physicians say there is no excuse for MGB to continue to delay recognition and are demanding that MGB immediately respect the vote, and begin bargaining in good faith.
Panelists will urge lawmakers to support policies that strengthen primary care, including the PC4You legislation, and to hold MGB accountable for ensuring that investments in primary care prioritize workforce stability, transparency, and patient care, not corporate priorities or AI vendors.
